Who doesn’t enjoy a delicious soft pretzel? Now lets make it with a twist, and change the shape! This makes it much easier for dipping in your favorite sauces!
You need |
1 1/2 cups warm water
1 Tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 package active dry yeast
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
4 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Vegetable oil
10 cups water
2/3 cup baking soda
1 large egg yolk beaten with 1 Tablespoon water
Directions |
Combine water, sugar and kosher salt in your mixing bowl. Sprinkle the yeast on top and allow it to sit for a few minutes or until you see it foam. Now add the flour and butter to the bowl and mix on low until the ingredients are combined.
Remove the dough from your mixer or mixing bowl and knead for about 3-5 minutes. Place dough in a greased bowl and make sure all sides of dough are covered with oil. Cover this tightly with plastic wrap and let sit for 1.5hours. The dough will grow much bigger in size, and be ready to knead again.
After you knead your dough down for the second time, create your baking soda and water bath. Let this come to a boil while you preheat your oven to 450 degrees and start creating your pretzel twists.
Cut dough into 12″ stripes, bring the two ends together by crossing over the dough in a braided form. If you can’t get this technique anything goes.. just have fun and make it twist! Once these are made, dip each into the boiling water for 30 seconds. Then place on a baking sheet and cover with egg wash, then season with salt, garlic powers, cinnamon and sugar, or any other seasoning you enjoy!
Into the oven for 12 minutes, and let cool for 5 minutes, then enjoy!
