TOXIC FREE LIVING: WHAT TO AVOID

Living a toxic free life brings on a sense of relief. Knowing that your keeping yourself and your family healthier and safer is a great feeling.

I’ve been using clean, toxic free Honest Company cleaning products in my home for about 8 years now, for about 5 years I have been using all toxic free beauty products such as lotions, creams, nail polish and body products. The past 2 years I have started to introduce more clean beauty products into my makeup bag. I have decided by the start of 2019 I want my entire makeup bag to be toxic free. Heres my plan on how I can achieve this.

First is education. You need to know what you want to avoid in products before you can renovate your lifestyle from toxic to toxic free.

Ingredients to avoid (there are so many, but here are the most common):

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or SLS
BHA
Triclosan and triclocarban
Aminophenol, Diaminobenzene, Phenylenediamine (Coal Tar)
Parabens
Polyethylene/PEGs
Retinyl palmitate, retinyl acetate, retinoic acid and retinol
Petroleum distillates
Fragrance
Oxybenzone
Dibutyl phthalate, toluene and formaldehyde
Hydroquinone

These chemicals are linked to so many issues including but not limited to:

human carcinogens
linked to hormonal disruptions
bacterial resistance
impaired muscle function
impaired immune function and increased allergies
skin depigmentation
causes liver damage
linked to stomach cancers
effects reproductive development, and thyroid levels
causes skin irritation
throws off body natural balance of oils
acne causing
causes eye damage
associated with endometriosis in women

I know this is all so shocking and we need to be more diligent all together about what we are using in our homes. To go product by product to find the right one is challenging but can be done. My tip on the easiest way to do it is choose a toxic free, clean beauty company that you can research once and know they are always going to offer the right products to fit into your toxic free lifestyle. For my it’s The Honest Company. I know whatever I buy is free of toxic chemicals and safe for my household and body.

PART 2 of this post will be all the products I use in my home, and where to buy them! Plus all the new beauty products I am introducing into my makeup bag for 2019!
